Study: Prayer doesn't heal

Apparently, science tells us that prayer doesn't heal.

I must say, I'm skeptical of the healing power of prayer, but I've figured that it can't hurt. Interestingly enough, according to the TV news clip on the study, those who were told that people were praying for them actually experienced more complications than others.

My thoughts are that if it makes you feel better and more like you'll get better, than by all means pray! I think a lot of healing is psychological.

How many of those prayers were from the heart? and how many of the patients strongly believed in the power of prayer? and how close are the patients to the people praying. Does this info affect the study?

You can't do a scientific study on something that is explained as "God answers every prayer, but sometimes the answer is "NO"".

If God is a capricious and unpredictable deity (and he would have to be if you believed the Bible) then there would be no way to "prove" that prayer "works"...because the definition of "works" is up for debate.

I mean, say God hears every prayer, but decides that he's only going to answer some of them. Then it is inconsistent and does not follow discernable natural rules...therefor it cannot be scientifically explored.

If God hears every prayer and responds consistantly...then it would be testible...but there hasn't been any indication of that in the Bible or in the history of miracles related by people who experianced them.

Personally, I believe that God's miracles ARE the natural laws that govern our lives and make our world work...not always as we would want it to...but it works.

Sometimes things go freakishly wrong...sometimes they go freakishly right...but I don't buy that God got his hand into it in either case...except at the time when he made things work the way they do.
